Creating value for shareholders: An empirical study of mergers and acquisitions in India's FMCG sector

Abstract: This study investigates the impact of mergers and acquisitions (M&As) on shareholder value in India's Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sector. Using a sample of M&A transactions from 2010 to 2023, we analyze pre- and post-acquisition financial performance and stock price reactions to assess value creation. The results indicate that M&As generally enhance shareholder value, evidenced by positive abnormal returns and improvements in key financial metrics.
